Liberals Got Religion Too...
...in the form of sin taxes

The Washington Times reports that "health advocates" who succeeded in lobbying for a 9% sin tax on alcohol are now pushing for increasing the cigarette tax to $3 a pack.

"Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative, says the group will start a campaign next week asking the General Assembly to increase the state’s $2-a-pack tax on cigarettes to $3 and raise taxes on other tobacco products, including cigars and smokeless tobacco."

It's reassuring to know that the ideologues on the Left are clinging  to their religion, "sin taxes", and worshiping at the altar of heavy regressive taxation on working class Americans.  But Liberal Democrats could not be for regressive taxes that hit the working poor or middle class.

"“It’s a great public-health measure. Our goal would be that all smokers would stop smoking,” the Health Care Lobbyist said Thursday."

Of course, if everybody would stop smoking and everybody would stop drinking, where would Liberal Democrat controlled Maryland get its Revenue.  They would be even more in debt.  In fact, where would health lobbyist DeMarco work.  I guess he could transition to fighting  for the unconstitutional mandate in ObamaCare.
